QUALITY TERRACOTTA WILL LAST FOREVER

Since the constructive use of the cooked clay was introduced in Spain by the Greeks in the S. VII A.C., there have been innumerable changes in the way of producing ceramics in Spain. New typologies of product, amplitude of formats, great technological advances, etc . However, some companies like Sebastián Perez S.L. with more than 100 years of experience, have managed to keep intact the essence of handmade clay tiles and the rustic stoneware of the past.

Terracotta ("baked earth") is basically a hard, fired unglazed clay. Its distinctive feature is its reddish-brown color.

Terracotta is one of the oldest tile materials around, dating back to the birth of Christ, when it was sun-dried rather than oven-fired. "Quality terracotta will last forever," says Dave Gobis, executive director of the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation.

[Design: Ernesto Santalla]

The clay tiles are an essential contribution to a pleasant and healthy atmosphere in the rooms. The porous material of the baked clay provides a climatic balance in the rooms and makes it an ideal surface for radial underfloor heating systems.Made of natural materials that are very durable; A variety of finish styles available (none to high gloss); Warm and earthy feel; Suitable for indoor and outdoor uses; Resistant to mold and bacterial growth.

While wood and stone flooring are often popular options in modern homes, there is another timeless classic that brings forth images of relaxing Mediterranean retreats and gorgeous Spanish Revival interiors - the terracotta tile.

Terracotta tiles have been around for a long, long time, and the fact that they are made completely naturally is a plus. Apart from adding coziness and warm elegance to the interior, terracotta tiles bring a sense of uniqueness and also give a modern interior a more grounded, elegant appeal. While a favorite among homeowners looking to usher in rustic, Mediterranean and other old-world styles, terracotta tile works surprisingly well in contemporary settings as well.

THE ACTUALLY TREND HAS TAKEN A SIGNIFICANT TURN

The new trends in interior design seek to take a step back and play with craft elements, elements of the past. The actually trend has taken a significant turn, where the digitally designed tiles and mechanical contracting, sought the absurd perfection are no longer so required by designers and architects. The trend is the retro, the old, the imperfectionism of the materials, the reality of creation where each material  made by hand is different to each other. We should look for the fusion of the beautiful and the comfortable concept with a base of nature. A deep search for natural materials that reflect comfort, life and health. An enforcement of the use of bio-natural materials that guarantee the relationship between man and nature.

An abundance of natural materials find in a house is the way to follow- The wood flooring and the light walls running into the terracotta tile in the next romm is the right idea of the new trend.

MINIMALIST & TERRACOTTA NOW ARE BEST FRIENDS

The use of ceramics in its origins was crude, rustic and basic but nowadays ceramic takes on a more decorative dimension, where new ideas gain their place in the market of decoration and interior design. When balanced with a minimalist, mostly-white kitchen, a terracotta floor warms up the room without bringing it to a rustic place. DO YOU KNOW THE CONCEPT OF PASSIVE HOUSE?

"A Passive House is a building, for which thermal comfort can be achieved solely by post-heating or post-cooling of the fresh air mass which is required to achieve sufficient indoor air quality conditions."
Dr. Wolfgang Feist

Passive house (German: Passivhaus) is a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling.

Passive Houses do not look any different from other buildings. However, on account of their clearly defined energy standard, they exhibit a high level of thermal comfort and extremely low energy consumption. Good planning as well as careful execution of the details is essential in the construction of Passive House buildings. This ensures that the high requirements for the building envelope and technology can be met. As a result, designers and specialist planners need additional expertise which can be acquired and substantiated with the Certified Passive House Designer/Consultant training course.

In Spanish Ceramic Sebastian Perez we manufacture terracotta floortiles suitable for bio-construction and used in passive houses (Passivhaus). Our 100% bio handmade tiles optimize the energy consumption of houses. Especially suitable for underfloor heating.
